Each session is tailored to support up to 30 community members who identify as Black mothers. It focuses particularly on those who have experienced incarceration and their children and mothers who have dealt with child protection service cases. Each session spans two hours and includes dinner and childcare to ensure a welcoming and nourishing environment.

The sessions will emphasize parenting development through the exploration of themes such as:

  • Career exploration rooted in self-awareness

  • Mental wellness

  • Life mapping paired with financial literacy

  • Agricultural development and farming

  • Housing resources

  • Wisdom shared by seasoned senior storytellers

  • Educational opportunities

Our mission for each session is to inspire meaningful discussions through shared experiences and to provide comfort and support via engaging group activities.

As a token of our appreciation for their participation in the program, each participant will receive a gift card.

Nourishing the Connections Cohort One

Each cohort is designed to serve up to 20 community members who identify as Black mothers—with a special emphasis on those who have been recently incarcerated and their children, as well as mothers who have active or recently closed child protection service cases. Each cohort consists of six two-hour sessions, and dinner will be provided at each session. The sessions will focus on parenting development through themes of:

  • career exploration through self-awareness cultivation

  • mental wellness,

  • life mapping with financial literacy,

  • agricultural development/farming,

  • housing,

  • seasoned senior storytellers and

  • education.

Note that Cohort One sessions are held bi-weekly on Wednesdays beginning October 30. You will receive more details once you register for the program.

Our goal for each session is to create engagement in discussion through shared experiences and provide comfort and support through group activities. Following cohort graduation, participants will be warmly encouraged to attend additional public convenings, fostering a sense of community and continued growth.

Participants will have the opportunity to receive transportation beginning after the first session of each cohort. In addition, each mother and child will receive a gift card for their participation in the program.
